As wind energy expands across the UK, many homeowners are grappling with the sight of wind turbines in their view. While some see turbines as a symbol of progress, others worry about the impact on property values. However, recent studies suggest that the effect may be far less than anticipated, with some countryside buyers even seeing a resurgence in property values over time.
Hollie Byrne, our Estates and Special Projects advisor reveals that, in her experience, it’s the uncertainty about how the view might change, rather than the actual outcome, that causes the most anxiety. “Once they are there, the worries largely go away. When I lived in Wiltshire, a local farmer put five turbines on his land with solar panels underneath. I enjoyed seeing them on the landscape, gracefully turning”. The five turbines make up Westmill Wind Farm Co-operative, which was regarded as the first entirely community-owned wind farm in southern England.
